Assam, Arunachal reel under heavy showers

Incessant rains triggered landslides and floods in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday. The severity of the rains worsened the flood situation in neighbouring Assam, affecting over 6.44 lakh people in 19 districts.

Rising water levels have impacted more than 43% of the 233 forest camps at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, an official report said on Monday. With a significant portion their habitat submerged, animals have started crossing the National Highway 715 in search of higher ground towards the southern direction in East Karbi Anglong district. Dibrugarh remained inundated for the fifth consecutive day on Monday.
