American President Joe Biden will skip the two-day summit aimed at helping chart a path toward peace in Ukraine, the White House said. The summit is set for in Lucerne, June 15-16 Switzerland.
Biden is due to be at a starstudded fundraising event in California for his 2024 reeletion ccampaign in Los Angeles at the time.
"No one has been a stronger, obviously stronger champion a for Ukraine than President Biden," White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters when asked why he will be in California instead of going to the summit.
She said Vice-President Kamala Harris and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will represent the US at the event.
