ONLINE SCAMMING | CBI conducted multi-city operation; victims, mostly foreigners, induced to transfer bank holdings into new accounts; accused from Pune, Hyd and Visakhapatnam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted a multi-city operation against a highly organised cyber crime network allegedly involved in fraudulent activities through illegal call centres targeting foreign nationals.

The agency has arrested 26 persons so far in Operation Chakra-III. The fraudsters told their targets that they were under surveillance of law enforcement agencies due to "suspicious orders placed by them". The victims were then induced to transfer their bank holdings into provided bank account numbers in the guise of safeguarding their finances. Of the arrested persons, 10 are from Pune, five from Hyderabad and 11 from Visakhapatnam.
