Love, trust, and shared experiences are the cornerstones of long-lasting partnerships. However, as time passes and life's responsibilities take precedence, emotional intimacy tends to progressively recede. Everyday obligations like taking care of your parents as they age, managing finances, establishing careers, and having children might take up so much of your time and energy that you may feel disconnected from your spouse. It's quite common for any long-term relationship to lose some of the intensity, spontaneity, and closeness you experienced in the beginning. That being said, emotional connection is not irreversibly lost.
