VP’S FOCUS Wants to be prez for all’, speaks of deep values, family ties

Democratic Party’s presidential nominee and the current Vice-President Kamala Harris Thursday spoke like a typical attorney that she was before plunging into politics, dishing out some half-truths in her first sitdown interview after she got nominated. In a 27-minute interview with CNN, which many claimed was soft, Harris tried, rather poorly, defending the state of economy, immigration, border security and fracking. But ultimately she underlined the message that America will be glad that the “Trump days are over and it was time for the nation to turn a new page”. Time and again the message was that of deep values and family ties. She also sought to frame the 2024 race as one that offers the American people “a new way forward” after a political decade in which Trump — in office or out — was a central figure.

She said she is running to be the president of all Americans while getting personal on a photo of her young grandniece, in pigtails, watching her speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week. Her running mate, Tim Walz, too got personal while saying he had seen a video of his son Gus emotionally reacting to his convention speech. “Our politics can be better.
