HC orders release of BJP's Ravi
The Free Press Journal|December 21, 2024
On a day marked by high drama, the Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered the immediate release of BJP national general secretary CT Ravi who was arrested on Thursday by Belgaavi police based on a complaint filed by Minister for Women and Child Development Laxmi Hebbalkar.
HC orders release of BJP's Ravi

Ravi had allegedly called Hebbalkar a prostitute inside the Legislative Council. The High Court order for his release came even as Ravi was being taken to Bengaluru. Ravi's advocates had petitioned the High Court questioning the arrest of the BJP functionary. Justice MG Uma, who heard the case, asked for medical reports of Ravi who sustained an injury while in police custody. She also asked the police to furnish reasons why he was arrested.

Based on a complaint by Hebbalkar, the police had registered a case under section 75 (making sexually coloured remarks) and section 79 (insult to modesty of women) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita 2023.
