In a tizzy over NEET PG seats
The Free Press Journal|November 11, 2024
The NEET PG seat matrix, released on Saturday after a delay, has candidates concerned about securing affordable post-graduate medical seats.
Vikrant Jha

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has reduced the all-India quota seats in government medical colleges (GMC) from 12,273 in 2023 to 11,938 in 2024 (a reduction of 335 seats), while it has increased the number of seats in deemed medical colleges (DMC) by 537, from 5,603 in 2023 to 6,140 in 2024. With the increase in DMC seats, where fees are extremely high (upto Rs 45 lakh in Maharashtra), and the decrease in GMC seats where fees are much lower (Rs 1.25 lakh in Maharashtra), candidates are concerned that the government is making it almost impossible for people from marginalised and economically weaker sections to pursue post-graduate medical courses.
