Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Thursday moved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha which seeks to "address issues" pertaining to the powers of the Waqf Boards, registration and survey of Waqf properties and removal of encroachments.
He also proposed sending the Bill to a joint parliamentary committee as the Opposition has raised several objections.
Introducing the amendment Bill, which was circulated among the MPs on Tuesday night, Rijiju assured that "there will be no interference in the freedom of any religious body." "Forget about snatching anyone's rights, this Bill has been brought to give rights to those who never had them," he said.
