Ukraine has agreed to a thirty-day ceasefire in talks with the Americans in the Saudi city of Jeddah and it is up to Russia now to take the process forward.
"A while ago, Ukraine has agreed to the ceasefire. Now we go to Russia and hopefully President Putin will agree to it also," US President Donald Trump said in Washington soon after the Jeddah announcement.
"If we get Russia to do it, that will be great. If we can't, we keep going on and on and people are going to get killed," he said in another video posted on his TruthSocial account.
"It takes two to tango, as they say, right? Hopefully, he'll also agree, and I really think that would be 75% of the way. The rest is getting it documented and, you know, negotiating land positions, etc.," he said. Trump hopes that the ceasefire could come into effect "in the next few days".
