Despite the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation's (MSRDC) earlier claim that the remaining stretch of the Hinduhrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg (HBTMSM) would be completed by September, authorities now indicate a potential two-month delay. Previously, MSRDC officials had expressed confidence that the 76km stretch between Igatpuri and Amane (Bhiwandi) would be ready by the end of September. However, a senior official said that, while 99% of the work between Igatpuri and Amane (Bhiwandi) is complete, delays mean it is unlikely to open this month. The remaining work is expected to take two more months."The road connecting Amane to the Sangrilla Resort on the old Mumbai-Nashik Highway is still under construction, and until it's finished, the remaining stretch of the Samruddhi highway can't be inaugurated," the official added. The 4.5km segment of roadwork, part of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway project towards JNPT Road, is expected to be completed by November. Of this, 3.5km is ready, but the final 1km involves demolishing and relocating warehouses and godowns. This road will connect the end of HBTMSM at Amane to the old Mumbai-Nashik Highway.Earlier, MSRDC vice-chairman and managing director, Anil Kumar Gaikwad, had stated that the state government would decide the official opening date once the remaining work was completed. MSRDC began constructing the Greenfield access-controlled highway in February 2019, with the 625km section operational by March 2024.The 76km stretch remains the most challenging. MSRDC is also setting up 10 public utility services, including petrol pumps, eateries, and other amenities along the HBTMSM. The HBTMSM is designed for speeds of 150km/h, with a 120m right-of-way (ROW) in non-forest areas and 90m in forest areas. It includes a 15m central median, a 2m paved shoulder, and wildlife, cattle underpasses, as well as vehicular and pedestrian underpasses at major crossings. The state government announced this project on November 30, 2015. Construction was carried out across the 701km stretch in 16 packages.
