The capital market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) chief Madhabi Puri Buch is now fighting a rebellion on her own turf inside the SEBI headquarters at BKC.
On Thursday, 400-odd SEBI officers protested outside the headquarters and demanded her resignation for allegedly fostering a "toxic work culture" under her leadership and against the statement released by the regulator that alleged "external forces" were behind the protest. Around llam, the employees staged a silent protest, which lasted about an hour.
However, senior SEBI officials said "misguided and disgruntled junior officers are demanding a 55% increase in HRA alongside many other benefits as a part of a strategy drafted by vested interests".
