At the age of 35, Shah could also become the youngest-ever ICC chairman if he takes up the mantle which looks all the more possible now with Barclay's exit.
Barclay's tenure will end on November 30th this year and with him pulling out of contention, Shah is most likely to take up the prestigious position with multiple reports suggesting the same.
More clarity will emerge within the next week with the last date for filing nominations for the post of the chairman being August 27.
