Indian Revenue Service officer Sameer Wankhede has moved the Bombay High Court, seeking that the case, which he filed against ex-minister Nawab Malik under the SC/ST Act, be either transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or monitored by the court. The officer alleged police inaction, pointing out that Malik has neither been arrested nor a charge-sheet has been filed till date.
In 2022, Wankhede had filed an FIR against the NCP leader under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at the Goregaon police station. Currently serving as an additional commissioner in the directorate general of taxpayer services, Wankhede, who is a member of the Mahar Scheduled Caste, has alleged that the police's inaction has caused him and his family mental distress and humiliation.
