Molly Rosenberg will leave her role, which she has held since 2017, at the end of March. The society also announced that its chair, Daljit Nagra, would stand down at an annual general meeting next week because his four-year term was due to end.
At the AGM on 15 January, Nagra will introduce the results and recommendations of the society's first governance review, conducted by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.
The RSL said it anticipated sharing some elements of the report publicly after the AGM. Nagra said he was proud to have overseen the review and that it would "increase transparency for the future".
Last February, the RSL confirmed that it had referred itself to the Charity Commission after being widely criticised for alleged censorship, changes to the way it elects fellows and not taking a strong enough stance in response to the stabbing of Salman Rushdie.
