Bowers and Chadder finish season on a high
The Herald|March 21, 2024
THE RBC Brewin Dolphin Mannamead Winter League season is almost coming to an end. A wet winter has played havoc with the fixtures but most of the matches have been played with some rearranged matches to be fitted in the final fortnight.

Bowers and Chadder finish season on a high

Tricky windy conditions could not stop a dominant display from Matt Bowers and sub-Dan Chadder wrapping up the season with another convincing win against Chris Welland and Varun Philip in Men’s A. There were lots of closely matched games with Matt and Dan getting the vital points winning 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. This victory meant Alex and Matt - with sub Dan - completed the season undefeated.

Chris Welland and Varun Philip played a second match in which they defeated Chris Janes and Andrew Leigh 6-1, 6-3, 6-0.

Steve Matcham and Dave Gale faced Andrew Regan and Pete Ireland in Men’s B. Dave and Steve got off to a good start and took the first set. However, the match changed for set two with Pete and Andy surging to a 3-0 lead.

Dave and Steve fought back to 3-3 and then the set went with serve to reach the tie-break, which Dave and Steve managed to win in a close battle.

The final set is not reflected in the final score as there were many close and long games with Steve and Dave eventually winning 6-1, 6-5, 6-2.

Despite a strong start from John Putman and sub-Lee Horton, Simon Wolstenholme and Simon Dixon played consistently well to win the second and third sets and overall 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
