Ms Bowater, from Modbury, was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by the Princess Royal in an investiture at Buckingham Palace yesterday. Ms Bowater began campaigning against violence against women after becoming a victim of stalking herself.
She has spent the past decade working to combat violence against women and girls, after a man was jailed for stalking her in 2009. Earlier this year she said the issue is&nbsp;&ldquo;everybody&rsquo;s responsibility&rdquo; and that society must address it.
She has also led a campaign for a statue in honour of Nancy Astor, the first woman MP to take her seat in Parliament, erected in Plymouth on the centenary of her election.
Ms Bowater said earlier this year she felt proud and privileged to receive the honour.
