A PLYMOUTH man who has battled with PTSD and homelessness is embarking on a daring journey across the Atlantic. Former Royal Marines Commando, Chris Thrall, will face the 3,000 mile crossing from Gran Canaria to Barbados.
The 54-year-old is skipper of the twoperson Oceans ELITE rowing crew, alongside fellow veteran and first mate Louie Greenhalgh, raising money for struggling veterans. The pair could encounter sharks, monster waves, exhaustion and injury on their challenging journey.
Louie, 52, from Bolton and Chris will row across the Atlantic Ocean in December 2024 without any support from other vessels, surviving on dehydrated food, desalinated water and sleeping in a cramped cabin.
Fewer people have rowed the Atlantic than have reached the summit of Mount Everest, due to the intensity of the feat. The first-time crew of the 20-foot boat - renovated by Plymouth firm Yacht Solutions hope to utilise their skills in seamanship, navigation, first aid, and sea safety to successfully accomplish their mission.
