THERE are concerns over the future of a half-built Plymouth housing development after it was revealed its construction company has now gone bust with debts of more than £8m unlikely to be paid. Residents at the Silver Hill estate in Tamerton Foliot have been left living next to unfinished properties and facing problems with their own homes for months after the collapse of Halsall Construction Ltd.
The Herald reported in April how work had stopped on the 38-house development leaving “gutted” residents in 17 completed homes feeling “left in the lurch”. Ward councillor Lee Finn said no work has taken place at the site since and he shares residents’ concerns about what is going to happen.
Plymouth Community Homes, which is developing the estate in a joint venture with Halsall, said it understands residents’ frustrations and is trying to find a solution. It said the warranty on finished homes is now held by the National House Building Council (NHBC) and at least one home-owner has been visited to discuss defects to their property.
