Julie Howes went from using substances to escape her own trauma to a career with Harbour, eventually leading the charity as its chief executive, and says anyone could turn to using substances problematically to escape their past.
The film has been launched by Plymouth’s leading substance misuse charity, as stark figures reveal more than 130,000 people are seeking help for substance misuse in the UK, and deaths are increasing.
In the moving short film, Julie describes how, during addiction, friends can ‘fall away’ and family find it difficult to cope. She said that it ‘could happen to any of us’.
