THE opportunity to return to English football was too good to turn down for Spanish defender Julio Pleguezuelo, who became Plymouth Argyle's first signing of the 2023/24 season last week.
Pleguezuelo, or 'Pleggy, as he likes to be known, joined the Pilgrims on a two-year deal from FC Twente after spending four years with the Dutch side, who he joined from Arsenal.
It was while he was a youngster with the Gunners that Pleguezuelo met his wife and although he was born on the Spanish island of Mallorca, England is very much home for the 26-year-old stopper.
"My life is in England," Pleguezuelo told the club's official website, "and that's why I decided to make the step to come back to England. I love the football, I love the passion - I love how people live for football in England. Plus, I'm closer to my family, which is also a very important part of my life.
