A HEART-wrenching ordeal has unfolded for a couple in their 90s who are now being separated due to housing shortages. Sheila Glass, 96, and her husband William, 94, have been torn apart after they were left without appropriate housing and care options.
It’s left Sheila stuck in hospital away from her husband despite being medically fit to go home.
The separation occurred after Sheila suffered a neck injury from a fall at their home, resulting in her being admitted to Liskeard Hospital.
Although she was declared fit to return home 60 days ago, moving back home wasn’t possible as occupational therapists declared their Millbrook residence unfit. In order to obtain the necessary care, William has been forced to relocate to his daughter’s home in Torpoint.
The pair have been added to the Cornwall housing register as they search for suitable accommodation. Their situation is highly unusual, with the couple only previously being separated briefly when William was serving in the Royal Navy. Before the unfortunate fall, Sheila was her spouse’s primary carer.
