A PLYMOUTH pub has been saved from a planning application that would have seen the premises turned into flats. The planning request for a change of use of the ground floor from public house to three flats was refused by Plymouth City Council last Friday.
Over 50 residents objected to The Grenville becoming residential dwellings, with just one person supporting the now refused change of use for the premises. In the planning application, the officer’s report detailed that the proposed plans “would lead to the loss of a public house in an area which is considered to be lacking in suitable alternatives”.
The Grenville – which is the only pub in the whole of St Jude’s – has been the “heart of the community” for decades. The building is owned by Andrew Cotterell.
