AN attempt by League One club Bristol Rovers to sign Plymouth Argyle captain Joe Edwards has 'seemingly fallen through, according to Bristol Live.
They have reported that Edwards was understood to have been 'subject to serious and sustained interest' from Rovers but is now expected to stay and fight for his place at Argyle under new boss Wayne Rooney.
Edwards scored the crucial winning goal when the Pilgrims beat Hull City 1-0 at Home Park on the final day of the 2023/24 season to retain their Championship status and the 33-year-old is under contract for next term.
Bristol Live's Daniel Hargraves wrote: "There was confidence within Rovers that a deal could be struck for Edwards early in the window, after the club had come close to signing Edwards in January, as he had fallen out of favour with former boss Ian Foster, with Gas manager Matt Taylor and director of football George Friend particular admirers, viewing the veteran as an important and necessary dressing room presence.
