NEW 'PERFORMANCE SPACES' AND A 'CAFE CULTURE VIBE'

Live music and events plan for the city centre

MASSIVE music and theatre events are planned for Plymouth city centre under a vision to make it one of the most vibrant in the UK. Two new event spaces are to be created and there will be outdoor seating to encourage a cafe culture vibe in the city centre – and a portable big screen for major sporting events and movies.

The vision is included in a new draft business plan which will be put to city centre businesses this week. It sets out a vision which would see a mix of home-grown and third-party events making the city centre one of the most exciting in the country.

Plymouth City Centre Company’s draft business plan says Plymouth already has a growing reputation for its events, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors and providing a major economic boost to the city. It highlights events such as Sail GP and the British Fireworks Championships and said: “The BID (business improvement district) will add to the city-wide programme with an ambitious mix of our own and 3rd party events to create one of the UK’s most vibrant city centres.”
