Malinowski top scores but suffers with defeat

Despite Malinowski's heroics, he was defeated in the individual phase in the final singles rubber by Paul Goundry 3-2, who ticked his ton total over to the ten mark.

Goundry's stablemate, Antony Hayman (26.84), showed his class with a 3-0 individual phase win that contained a brace of 16-darters and a maximum. Hayman was joined in hitting a three-treble visit by Lee Doncaster, whilst Hayman's 113 combination outshot narrowly bet-tered a 100 kill by Malinowski's team-mate Simon Stevenson.

Stevenson added 12 more tons to his night's work to end the evening on 13 and also added legs in 18 and 16 darts to a 3-1 success over Don-caster.

Out shots of 115 and 121 from George Beckett were two of 15 ton-plusses he nailed for Steampacket, but that firepower still couldn't arrest his team's slide to a 6-5 defeat against Cherry Tree C.

Beckett's individual phase con-tained two 18-dart legs, which con-tributed to a 3-1 win, whilst Beckett was well supported by team-mate Luke Johnson.

Johnson bagged himself a brace of 180s to tick his ton tally over the 12 mark, whilst his 3-1 singles success was put away with the help of a leg in 18 darts.

Johnson's maximums were joined by a third from his team that came from the arm of Marc Webber, whilst a trio of efforts were plundered by the successful away team.

Darren Smith added a 17-darter in a 3-2 win to his solitary three treble visit, whilst two more 180s were thrown down by Dan Jewell to com-plete a sextet on the night.

With the game locked at 5-5 going into the final singles rubber, Dave Hollow steered his side home with a 3-1 singles success that came in the last game.

Octagon rounded off their inevita-ble third straight title win with three games to spare after a 10-1 success at Bluebird A clinch the champion-ship.

Lee Hellings top scored for the vic-tors with 13 tons, whilst team-mate Alfie Ford added 12 scores of a ton or more overall.
