A MAN who strangled his former partner, bit her finger and punched her in the face before spitting in the face of one police officer and then calling a female custody sergeant a "foreign c***" has been jailed.
Vile Christopher McCaffrey appeared at Plymouth Crown Court after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, non-fatal strangulation, assaulting an emergency worker and racially aggravated intentional harassment.
The 37-year-old, from Beacon Road, Bodmin, had denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm and the court heard these pleas were accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Prosecutor Ed Bailey how McCaffrey had been in a relationship with the victim for just three weeks during which he seriously assaulted her on two occasions. The first, on April 22 this year, saw the victim phone a male friend to ask him to call for an ambulance as McCaffrey had strangled her to unconsciousness.
The male friend attended her home in Bayswater Road, in Plymouth, and found smashed glass on the floor. The woman explained that McCaffrey had grabbed her by the throat and strangled her, leaving her with visible bruising.
