Not since the Scorpions were stung 49-41 at the Coliseum on May 2 have the Gladiators enjoyed the winning feeling and their last meeting at Poole saw them suffer their heaviest defeat yet with the Pirates winning 64-26.
May was disheartened by that performance, albeit against the standout team in the Championship once again this season, but felt his riders could - and should - have done better on the night.
“I want to see a bit more fight than what I did at Poole and I obviously want 42 points – or even better, get the win. That’s what we have to do,” May said.
“We have to get into the play-offs and that is the only aim now as we’ve been knocked out of everything else. We just have to keep plugging away and the riders need to pick up.
“We need a win or at least be close because we beat them 49-41, so we have to go up there with the aim of either winning or getting to 42 points. It’s as simple as that. The boys have to bounce back after the Poole defeat.
“We have ridden Poole six times, three times at home and three away and they are a very strong side and will probably win the title, but we have to do a little bit better.”
