PLYMOUTH Moor View MP Johnny Mercer has said he is ‘deeply concerned’ over long waiting times faced by elderly people at Derriford Hospital, but added that NHS staff ‘deserve better than to be kicked around as a political football’.
The Conservative MP was responding to figures from a Freedom of Information request which was released by NHS trusts to Liberal Democrats last week, and said that more than 2,500 over-65s had to wait for more than 24 hours in Derriford Hospital’s A&E Department last year.
The total of 2,586 was almost exactly the same as in 2019 – up by one – but is down from 4,577 patients in 2022.
