PLYMOUTH Moor View MP Johnny Mercer has said he is 'deeply concerned' over rises in school absences in the city, which were uncovered in an analysis of data provided by the Department for Education.
Figures which were analysed by Labour suggested that the number of Plymouth pupils missing more than half of their lessons during the autumn and spring terms had risen to 785 for the 2022-23 academic year.
That is more than six times the rate it was in the 2016-17 school year, with 'severe absence' levels - where pupils miss more than half their lessons - having risen every year since.
