A PAIR of pistols that were presented by Napoleon to a Royal Navy captain in Plymouth, six weeks after the French military commander’s famous defeat at the Battle of Waterloo, are being sold at auction.
They were made by Boutet, of Versaillles (Paris), and bear the marks for 1798 to 1809. They were presented to Captain George Marshall on HMS Bellerophon on August 6, 1815, off the coast of Plymouth.
The pistols are estimated to sell for up to £14,000 when they go under the hammer at Olympia Auctions in London on December 4.
