Paralympic cox Erin nominated for campaigning

Erin Kennedy has been shortlisted in the Special Achievement category of this year's awards for her inspiring campaigning after being diagnosed at the age of 29.

The National Lottery Awards are the annual celebration of the ordinary individuals and organisations who do extraordinary things with the help of National Lottery funding.

Erin is a coxswain with the para GB Rowing Team and steers the mixed cox four as part of the Paralympic Rowing Squad. During her sporting career, she has been European Champion three times, World Champion twice and took gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

But in May last year, a few months after being awarded an MBE, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of just 29. Only four per cent of British breast cancer patients are under 39.

Erin faced her illness with the same determination she puts into rowing, sharing her treatment journey online, from fertility preservation and shaving her head to the reality of 15 rounds of chemotherapy and a double mastectomy.
