PLYMOUTH'S finance chief says the city will not follow Birmingham into "bankruptcy"!
Cllr Mark Lowry said Plymouth City Council's finances were "secure" but stressed it still faces financial challenges. He has had meetings with senior council officers to discuss Plymouth's finances following the news that Birmingham City Council has declared itself in financial distress in effect bankrupt - but he stressed Plymouth will not be following Birmingham in issuing an Section 114 notice, meaning all non-essential spending must stop.
The Labour councillor did, however, say Plymouth, along with other local authorities, faces financial challenges.
He called on the Tory Government to boost financial support to them or more could go to the wall.
