Police honour teen who took her own life

TWO officers from Devon and Cornwall Police will take on the challenge of abseiling down Meldon Viaduct to raise money in memory of a Tavistock teenager who tragically ended her own life in 2021.

The challenge is all the more poignant for one of the officers - Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Debbie Hollinson whose daughter Darcy Hollinson chose to take her own life in April 2021, at the aged of just 17.

Since her passing Darcy's family and friends have helped raise thousands of pounds in her memory to support vital services who tackle the issue of young people's mental health, such as Young Mind, and Pete's Dragons.

At Darcy's inquest in January 2022, PCSO Hollinson, who works in Plymouth City Centre for the neighbourhood police team, said the true pandemic was not Covid, but mental health.

She added: "There is just not enough support for young people."
