MOTORISTS in Plymouth are more likely to be caught jumping red lights than anywhere else in Devon, because it is currently the only place in the county where red-light cameras have been installed – but that is about to change.
A recent Freedom of Information (FoI) request answered by Devon and Cornwall Police revealed that there were four sites across the force area where red-light cameras have been installed.
The force confirmed that over the last few years a number of people had been caught going through red lights, but this was only because redlight cameras (RLCs) had picked them up and not because they were spotted by a sharp-eyed and conveniently placed police officer.
The Herald asked the FoI Team at the force why its reply only stated four sets of data, and was told it was because there were only four of these kinds of cameras, three in Plymouth and one in Truro, in Cornwall, but this is about to change.
