RELATIVES of elderly people living at a retirement housing complex in Plymouth have voiced their fears that their loved ones may come to harm due to one of the residents.
Mandy Haughey said her father is one of a number of elderly people at Devonport Views who have been subject to verbal abuse and even physical assaults by a far younger resident. She said her own father is in his late 80s while many of the other residents are in a similar age bracket.
However, she said that one resident at the complex – which is described by housing association LiveWest as “an extra care housing scheme for older people or people with disabilities and provides 42 self-contained flats” – appears to suffer mental health difficulties.
Mandy said: “My father has been at Devonport Views for five years and it is a marvellous place, but in recent weeks there have been a number of incidents which have concerned the residents there as well as their families.
