Mr Turfrey said at the time that he saw its North Hill location as a burgeoning location for foodies, and hoped Plates would complement nearby restaurants, including Mrs Browns and Zephyr Burgers. And it seems the city’s diners agree – with the restaurant now rated fifth in Tripadvisor’s restaurant rankings for Plymouth.
Reviewers have praised Sunday lunches they called “stunning” and “superb”, with many highlighting the choice of cocktails. Others pointed to the “vibe” of the restaurant and service – led by Mr Turfrey’s partner Alicia on front of house.
Reviewer ZenaG412 said: “Wow! Amazing service, loved the warmth of owners. Sunday lunch was superb. Quirky place tucked away”, while PBrown called it “one of the best places in the city”.
