VETERANS have voiced their anger that fencing for a music festival stopped them accessing war memorials on the Hoe for D-Day. But council chiefs said that if people want to attend the memorials while it is surrounded by a huge fence, they can call a telephone number to alert security to grant them access.
The city council's response came after Councillor Chris Penberthy, deputy Lord Mayor, took to Twitter to raise his concerns about the large barrier, put in place for the three-day 1 Big Summer event on the Hoe. He highlighted how this year's D-Day was the 78th anniversary of that momentous wartime event and that it was an "important day for our veterans, for our current armed forces communities, and for all the families of those who served."
