For those who don’t know the location, it’s a tiny beach tucked away behind Paignton Harbour.
There are two methods of getting there – clamber down the steep steps from the gardens behind the sea anglers’ club, or find the passageway down in the corner of the harbour.
Either way, it’s not somewhere you find by accident. You have to go and look for it.
The sand is coarse and always a little bit damp at Fairy Cove. It is never going to feature in one of those gormless online “The Nine Loveliest Beaches in England” features, but the view across the bay is breathtaking. On air show day, it is one of the best places to watch the action in the skies above Paignton.
On Sunday evening, as the sun started to drop over the big hill at Primley, the tide was a very long way out, and the rocks that reach around towards Goodrington were exposed. There was still plenty of heat in the day.
