PLYMOUTH’S city councillors say The Box museum and art gallery has exceeded all expectations and is now “up there” with London’s V&A museum, and with the National History Museum.
The city council’s award-winning arts venue saw 246,000 visitors in the 2022/23 financial year, an increase of more than 40,000 on the previous year.
A total of 600,000 people have now visited the arts venue which generated an income of £429,813 last year.
Councillor James Stoneman (Con, Eggbuckland) said at the council’s growth and infrastructure overview and scrutiny committee: “I love, love, love The Box. I have been to museums all over the world, Amsterdam, London, all over the place, and it’s my favourite by far.”
