Plymouth City Council's Tory leader is urging citizens to write to the Government in a bid to have the current ban on development extended for another five years - and he wants the land included in the city's tax-break freeport.
Cllr Andy Lugger said time is running out, with the current moratorium due to end in late March. He said moves to reclaim the lease, already begun by the Labour-controlled council, are welcome, but he wants the security of knowing the 113-acre plot will continue to be protected for aviation purposes.
In 2019, the Government's planning inspector's report backed the protection during formulation of the Plymouth and South Devon Joint Local Plan. The five-year review of the plan comes next month.
The city council's Labour administration has said it is considering options for extending the safeguard.
