PLYMOUTH’S Tinside Lido is in need of £500,000 worth of urgent repairs and is even potentially unsafe, a report says. Plymouth City Council is now carrying out a thorough structural inspection of the Grade II listed lido and is planning to carry out improvements.
It stressed the safety of people using the pool “would never be compromised”. But the report, from 2022, said “there is considerable potential for injury from falling loose render”.
The report, which has been seen by The Herald, highlights more than 140 defects including cracks, leaks and corrosion in the main building and the pool. The sea wall has some of the most striking defects, including a huge crack which is letting in water and two pillars which are in danger of coming loose.
The report’s authors put the cost of repairs at an estimated £552,650. They said the council didn’t have the cash to do more than patch up the structure, but now it was time for a major overhaul to prevent its condition getting worse.
