PLYMOUTH’S Millbay Docks is now capable of handling greater volumes of cargo and make boarding large ships much easier, after an upgrade to the West Wharf which began last December. The project involved installed 30 steel tubular piles into the wharf, which means it can accommodate 100-tonne cranes.
The enhancement will enable the port to handle a greater volume of cargo and will support a state-of-the-art Passenger Boarding Bridge for both ferry and cruise passengers.
Having started in December 2023, the works were part of a £23m upgrade for the port, which is designed to secure the long-term future of the Ferry Terminal, strengthen the port’s freight capability, increase the port’s green credentials and grow the offering to the cruise market.
