THE Met Office says the UK is unlikely to see any hot summer weather until at least mid-August as it updates its long-range forecast.
The Devon-based forecaster warned on Monday that the UK is in for an unsettled end to July and the early part of August. And it's unlikely we will see the return of any hot summer temperatures until later next month.
A heatwave is continuing across southern Europe, with temperatures in the central Mediterranean expected to peak yesterday.
The Met Office warned this week that the UK could have a 40C heatwave once every three years.
Temperatures of 40C had never been recorded in the UK until July 19 last year, but they could be appearing as frequently as every three years by 2100 if greenhouse gas emissions are not curtailed, the Met Office has said.
