His death was announced in a post on his Instagram account yesterday: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Spencer earlier today. He was positive until the end but this was one battle he could not fight anymore.
“He leaves behind a wonderful musical legacy and many happy memories for many people. He will be sadly missed by everyone who loved him.”
Dario G was originally a trio act comprising Spencer and fellow DJs Scott Rosser and Stephen Spencer, and took their name from the manager of Crewe Alexandra football club at the time, Dario Gradi.
They were best known for their 1997 hit “Sunchyme”, which reached number two in the UK singles chart and was only kept off the top spot only by Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind”, his tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales.

Veering right is an error the Tories can't afford to make
When the Conservatives begin their annual conference tomorrow, it might be tempting for them to savour the woes engulfing Keir Starmer's government so early in its life. Labour's freebies will certainly provide plenty of ammunition - and jokes at Starmer's expense.

Unpredictable and wickedly acerbic actor with few peers
The trouble with Maggie Smith is that she's watchable in everything and worked like a trouper from the age of 17. A twotime Oscar winner (as well as the proud owner of a Tony for Lettice and Lovage), she left few stones unturned, which makes it hard to do justice to her talent and range. Those who saw her on stage rave about her versatility, but she was just as unpredictable in films and on TV.
