Teenager being shot in head sparks mass brawl in France
The Independent
|November 02, 2024
A 15-year-old boy has been left in critical condition after being shot in the head during a drive-by attack allegedly linked to drug trafficking in western France, local officials and media have reported, with hundreds of people caught in a subsequent latenight brawl.
The teenager was reportedly among five people injured in the attack in the city of Poitiers, two more of whom were also teenagers, French media claimed.
Interior minister Bruno Retailleau told BFMTV/RMC radio yesterday that the shooting began at 10.45pm local time on Thursday in front of a restaurant before rapidly escalating into a mass fight. “What started as a shooting at a restaurant ended up in a fight between rival gangs that involved several hundred people,” Mr Retailleau said.
