India assumed the role of vice chair of the IORA meeting, being held from October 10-12. Sri Lanka is the current chair of IORA. India is set to take over IORA chairship for 2025-27, the external affairs ministry said.

At the meeting, IORA's recent activities were reviewed and future cooperation outlined.

Meanwhile, the India-Sri Lanka Economic Partnership Vision also includes a power grid inter-connection for electricity trade, construction of a petroleum pipeline, a feasibility study for land connectivity, and resumption of talks on an Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement to replace an existing trade deal.
Following an agreement between India's NPCI International Payments Limited and Lanka Pay, UPI is set to be accepted in Sri Lanka by the end of the year after the completion of certain processes.
