Major changes in Wakf laws mooted by govt

FROM renaming the Wakf Act to providing representation to women and a separate Board of Auqaf for Boharas and Aghakhanis, the government has proposed several amendments to the Wakf Act, 1995.

Significantly, the proposed bill has omitted contentious section 40 relating to powers to decide if a property is Wakf property.

The bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament this week.
