FIVE Indian fishermen were injured, two of them seriously, after being fired at by the Sri Lankan Navy near Delft Island early Tuesday, prompting a strong diplomatic response from India.
The Ministry of External Affairs summoned Priyanga Wickramasinghe, Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in New Delhi, and lodged a strong protest over the incident. The Sri Lankan diplomat was told that use of force is not "acceptable" under any circumstances.
