RESIDENTS of Kolippalam and Nallani in Keezhallur grama panchayat find themselves in a protracted crisis, eight years after the government initiated plans to acquire land for the expansion of Kannur airport's runway. Despite promises and notifications, the government's inaction has left residents mired in uncertainty and despair. They are starting a protest with the panchayat's support from Monday against the government apathy.
In 2018, the government announced the acquisition of 245.32 acres of land in Kanad and Keezhallur villages. This process would displace more families than the 1,800 acres acquired earlier for the airport.
