The Sabarimala temple was closed on Thursday after the Mandala pooja, marking the culmination of the 41-day pilgrimage season. Since the opening of the sanctum sanctorum of the hill shrine on November 15, around 32.50 lakh devotees visited the temple.

The temple will reopen at 5 pm on December 30 for the Makaravilakku festival, which falls on January 14, 2025.

The ritualistic Mandala pooja was held between noon and 12.30 pm on Thursday and the temple was closed at night after Harivarasanam. Till Wednesday, a total of 32,49,756 pilgrims visited the temple, an increase of 4,07,309 pilgrims compared to the previous year, officials said.
